What makes this sector demanding
- Estates with undocumented or inherited HV assets
- Shutdown windows measured in hours, not days
- Client HV safety rules that require competent SAP control
- Statutory and insurer evidence for planned maintenance regimes
How we support you
- Planned preventative HV maintenance and switchgear servicing
- Senior authorised person cover for switching, isolation and permits
- Protection relay re-testing at defined intervals
- Transformer condition assessment and oil sampling
- Asset condition surveys and remedial recommendations
SAP cover that carries real accountability
Senior authorised person provision is not simply supplying a name. The SAP owns the safety of the HV system for the duration of the work: the switching programme, the points of isolation, the earths applied, the permits issued and the competence of everyone working under them. We provide SAPs authorised to the appropriate voltage level with the documentation and discipline that clients' HV safety rules demand.
Getting the most out of a short shutdown
On occupied estates the outage window is the constraint. Planning matters more than manpower: sequencing switching so isolations serve several tasks, pre-staging spares and test equipment, agreeing decision points in advance for what happens if a test fails. We plan maintenance visits around the window rather than the task list.
Making sense of inherited assets
FM providers frequently take on estates where single line diagrams are out of date, relay settings are undocumented and asset history is missing. We record as-found conditions, rebuild the record, and give a prioritised view of what is genuinely at risk — so maintenance budget goes where it changes the outcome.
Facilities maintenance — questions we get asked
- Can you provide SAP cover on an ad hoc basis?
- Yes. We provide senior authorised person cover for individual switching operations, planned shutdowns or ongoing contracted support across an estate.
- How often should HV switchgear be maintained?
- Typical UK practice is annual inspection with more detailed servicing every three to six years depending on equipment type, duty and environment. Insurer or manufacturer requirements may set tighter intervals.
