Independent connection providers
Supporting ICPs to deliver adoptable HV networks — designed, commissioned, tested and energised to DNO and industry standards, first time.
- Voltage range
- 11kV – 132kV
- Coverage
- UK-wide
- Support
- Commissioning, testing & SAP cover
What makes this sector demanding
- Adoption requirements that vary between DNO regions
- Protection settings submissions rejected late in the programme
- Test documentation that must satisfy the adopting network operator
- Energisation dates driven by the client's build programme, not the network's
How we support you
- Substation and switchgear commissioning to adoption standard
- VLF cable testing and sheath integrity on new circuits
- Protection settings preparation and submission support
- Transformer pre-energisation testing
- Energisation and first-load support alongside the DNO
Documentation the adopting DNO accepts
For an ICP, the technical work is only half the job — the other half is producing evidence in the form the adopting network operator expects. We build test packs to the relevant DNO's requirements, referencing their protection policy, their test schedules and their adoption criteria, so the pack does not come back for rework after the site team has demobilised.
Protecting the energisation date
Most ICP programme slip we see traces back to two things: a settings submission that was not aligned with upstream network protection, and cable or switchgear test failures found on the day of energisation. Both are avoidable. We front-load the settings work with the study, and we test progressively as sections complete rather than leaving everything to a single pre-energisation window.
One partner across the scheme
Because we deliver design and protection studies as well as commissioning and testing, the settings applied on site are the settings we modelled — with the same engineer accountable for both. That removes the interface where responsibility usually gets lost.
Independent connection providers — questions we get asked
- Do you work to specific DNO adoption requirements?
- Yes. Test plans, protection settings and documentation are prepared against the adopting network operator's policies for the region in question.
- Can you support energisation day?
- Yes. We attend energisation with the DNO, carry out pre-energisation checks, and support first energisation and load transfer under an agreed switching programme.
